Shipra Maurya, PsyD
Psychological Associate Supervisor, Dr. Hanna Chang

Hello! My name is Dr. Shipra Maurya. I am a psychological associate at Mind-Body Care. I am excited to work with individuals with identity development stagnation. As a second-generation Asian Indian American born of immigrant parents, as well as research in this area, I have a vast understanding of acculturative stressors, microaggressions, and identity formation issues. I am also a board-certified Ayurvedic Health Practitioner that can offer a unique perspective and cultural integration. I integrate polycultural social justice methodologies into cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy: yoga, and meditation with a collaborative style. Creating a safe space and a warm inviting atmosphere is extremely important to me so that trust, honesty, and openness can unfold. I’m looking forward to meeting you.

How I work:
I possess a high degree of integrity and an outstanding work ethic. My desire to work as a clinical practitioner is because few clinicians of my descent occupy this field. As a South Asian American, I am passionate about serving people within the minority community and families struggling with acculturative stressors and bi-cultural identity challenges, as well as Neurodivergent individuals and Neuro-diverse couples.

Treating neurodiversity (ASD and ADHD) and Treating neurodiverse couples:
I have over 10 years of experience working with individuals of all ages who are self-diagnosed or formally diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Difference) as well as with neurodiverse couples.Neurodiverse couples (one or both partners on the spectrum) would benefit from working with a clinician who understands their unique challenges and issues. Often, non-spectrum individuals in the relationship get overlooked, are misunderstood, and end up feeling alone. As a certified and trained neurodiverse couples therapist, I am compassionate and empathetic to how neurological differences may be impacting your relationship. I also treat multicultural, neurodiverse couples with a vital cultural component and neurological perspective. With a strength based approach, I provide concrete skill-building tools to enhance emotional connection. We will focus on lowering anxiety, communication challenges, and strengthening executive functioning skills (organizing, planning, getting tasks accomplished, paying bills, and managing time). Because of my lived experiences and training, I will be able to understand, validate, and normalize your neurodiversity.

Treating South Asian American Clients:
Supporting South Asian American women in Tech and leadership as well as South Asian American second generations (children/adults of immigrant parents). Using theoretical frameworks specific to South Asians focusing on intersectionality, different forms of acculturation, and cultural/gender empowerment can help you get unique, authentic support that works with your multiple-layered issues.
